Wegovy pens
Wegovy injections now come in more than one format. The prescribing information lists single-dose pens and a multi-dose Wegovy FlexTouch pen, as well as tablets.[3] Check which one you have before relying on any storage rule.
Single-dose pen
- Store it in the refrigerator between 36°F and 46°F (2°C to 8°C).[1]
- If needed, it can be kept between 46°F and 86°F (8°C to 30°C) in the original carton for up to 28 days.[1]
- Keep it in the original carton to protect it from light.[1]
- Do not freeze it. Throw the pen away if it has been frozen.[1]
Wegovy FlexTouch pen
The FlexTouch pen holds four doses, so its rules are not the same as the single-dose pen's. Follow the Instructions for Use that come in its carton, and ask your pharmacist if anything is unclear.
Ozempic pens
Before first use
- Store the pen in the refrigerator between 36°F and 46°F (2°C to 8°C).[4]
- Do not store it in the freezer or right next to the fridge's cooling element.[4]
- Keep it in the original carton until you use it.[4]
After first use
- The pen can be stored for 56 days, either at room temperature between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C) or in the fridge.[4]
- Keep the pen cap on when you are not using it.[4]
- Remove and safely throw away the needle after each injection, and store the pen without a needle attached. Use a new needle every time.[4]
Write the date of your first injection on the carton so you know when day 56 falls.
Wegovy pills
Wegovy pills do not go in the fridge. Store them at room temperature (68°F to 77°F) in a dry place, in the original bottle, with the lid tightly closed.[2] A steamy bathroom cabinet is not a dry place.
Frozen, hot or unsure
- Frozen: do not use it.[1, 4]
- Above 86°F, or you have lost count of the days: the labels do not give an exception. Ask your pharmacist or call Novo Nordisk before you use it.
- Traveling: the same limits apply away from home. Keep pens in their carton, out of hot cars and direct sun, and carry them with you rather than in checked luggage.

How long can Wegovy be out of the fridge?
Novo Nordisk says the Wegovy single-dose pen can be kept between 46°F and 86°F (8°C to 30°C) in its original carton for up to 28 days. If you have the multi-dose Wegovy FlexTouch pen, check the Instructions for Use in its carton.
How long can Ozempic be out of the fridge?
Before first use, Ozempic belongs in the fridge. After first use, the prescribing information says the pen can be stored for 56 days at room temperature between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C) or in the fridge.
Do Wegovy pills need to be refrigerated?
No. Novo Nordisk says to store Wegovy pills at room temperature (68°F to 77°F) in a dry place, in the original bottle with the lid tightly closed.
What if my Wegovy or Ozempic pen froze?
Do not use it. Both medicines should never be frozen, and Novo Nordisk says to throw away a Wegovy pen that has been frozen.
Should I leave the needle on my Ozempic pen?
No. The prescribing information says to remove and safely throw away the needle after each injection and store the pen without a needle attached.
